I ask that everyone arrive on time, with all lesson books and materials . Out of consideration for those who have a lesson scheduled after yours, I am not able to extend lesson times due to being late. If you arrive more than five minutes prior to your scheduled lesson time, please wait in your vehicle.
Regular attendance is essential for success. However, I understand that life happens! Every student is allowed to cancel up to 4 lessons per year for any reason (example: vacation, illness, you just need a day off). You will not be charged for these lessons. However, notice must be given by 9am on the day of your lesson. If no notice is given, or late notice is given the lesson will be charged as usual. Any lessons missed beyond the four cancellations will be charged as usual. If you know in advance that you have a conflict with your lesson time, let me know, it may be possible to arrange another time for that week.
If your child is too ill to go to school, please don't come to piano. If your child is just slightly unwell, but still up for an online lesson, this can be arranged. Depending on my schedule, it may be possible to arrange a makeup lesson.
Any and all lessons that I miss will be either made up or refunded to you.
My home is a non-smoking environment. If you have an allergy to dogs, please note that we have a mini shih tzu named Coco. Coco loves children, but I don't allow her out during lessons, as she would be too much of a distraction! Although I always clean before lessons, I cannot guarantee that the studio is completely free of dog hair. However, our dog is considered hypoallergenic.
If at all possible, I ask that young siblings (especially babies and toddlers), be left at home with another parent or babysitter. I understand that this is not always possible. This helps to make sure there are no distractions and we all can focus solely on the music we are making!
Payment is due monthly, on the 1st of ever month, Sept - June. Post-dated check or recurring e-transfer are preferable. If payment has not been received by the 7th of the month, a late fee of $10 will be added.
A registration fee is added to your September invoice and a recital fee is added to your June invoice.
As with any educational endeavor, lesson books and other new music will be required for your lessons. I will purchase these and invoice you accordingly. I will always let you know in advance that music needs to be purchased.
It is completely normal for your child's interest in piano lessons to rise and fall throughout the year. If you are finding yourself struggling to get your child to attend for more than a couple of lessons in a row, please let me know. There is often something we can do to help your child find excitement in music again. In order to avoid any rash decisions, should you decide to discontinue lessons, I ask for one month's notice. This also allows time for me to fill your child's lesson spot.
Parents are always welcome to attend lessons and observe, but this is not required. Also, some students actually respond better when the parent is not in the room.
Parents, especially for young children, it is important that you help them with their practice and written assignments I send home with them. I find having a set time for practice, five days a week, is a good goal. Smaller practice sessions are better for small children.
Please feel free to communicate any questions or concerns with me about your lessons and your child. Together we can make learning to play the piano a success!
Thank you for your cooperation in all of these matters! It is so appreciated!
